This is the last project I have completed, a label for a bottle of brandy. For the assignment we were given a type of liquor and location then we had to come up with the rest. (more…)

I found myself on the south waterfront here in Portland a few nights ago. The light was perfect for only about a half hour so I had to shoot fast. Photography can be so dramatic. The blue of the sky and the yellow of this crane made for a great photo. I tend to shoot with a very wide angle lens, I like to capture as much of a scene as I can. These are my favorites from that night. (more…)

Typographic superhero Erik Spiekermann has done it again with Meta Serif. As you can imagine Meta Serif fits in with the existing Meta Sans family perfectly. I am excited that this typeface was developed because I use Meta very often in my projects. It is nice to have a Sans and a Serif face that were developed to work together. I’m not sure if there are any other type combinations like this. If you know of one let me know already!

This is the latest of a series of posters I have been creating with my self portrait as the creative driving force. I really enjoy this one, it’s my favorite out of the bunch I have done thus far. I printed a bunch of them, I really like having prints around. My office is filled with print designs from companies like House Industries and Veer as well as a lot of my own work. This poster made the office wall. Check out the details.

Over the past weekend I worked with a group of people and made a short film in only 2880 minutes.

Film 2880 is a short film contest that takes place as part of the Port Townsend film festival. On Friday night our team was given a prop, a theme, and a line for us to use in our short film. Then we had to think up a concept, write the script (or just wing it), shoot the film, edit it, and send it all before 7 pm on Sunday night. Chaos is a term that comes to mind. Our film was in the mail at 6:45 pm. Whew. We were one of 35 teams to enter but the only one from Portland. My part was to shoot it and do most of the editing. I took some behind the scenes photos while we were working. we did some funny stuff. I will have the video posted after it screens at the festival. (more…)

The hair salon my wife works for, Hello Gorgeous, has two teams entering the relay and I was charged with coming up with team logos and tee shirt designs for each. The team names are HOT Garbage and the Lager Joggers. This was a pretty fun little bit of work, the logos had to be easy to see and read while still showing some personality. This event is just plain fun, and so are the teams from Hello Gorgeous. These guys are really into what they are doing so I wanted their shirts to look as great as their hair… (more…)

Apple’s WWDC07 ( the developers conference ) kicked off today and Apple.com seems to have gotten a bit of a face lift.

So like the apple nerd I am I watched Steve Jobs Keynote speech at WWDC07 earlier this afternoon and was impressed at what is in store for us apple lovers during the next year. The most interesting is the up coming release of OSX Leopard, just 21 months after the last release of Tiger assuming that is comes on time. Steve was boasting over 300 new features in the lastest release of the operating system but who knows if that true, I don’t think I will notice all 300 that’s for sure. Regardless I am excited, but where am I going to get all the money I’m gonna need for the upgrade? (more…)

I found it earlier this morning somewhere out there. I saw some random link and boom, there it was. The coolest desk I have ever seen. Sure I have a great desk with loads of space. It even has adjustable legs. This thing is called MILK and was designed by Soren Kjaer owner of In2media, a new media design company out of Denmark. OK everyone, HOLY CRAP, this is one cool desk.
After spending all morning looking at typography I just had to talk about what I saw. I just love the type…

So that’s right, I spent about the last 4 hours looking a type. I found some new favorites, some stuff I cant afford, and some type in motion. On Adobe’s web site there are a series of five short movies about using typography in motion graphics projects with After Effects. They are a little cheesy but pretty cool to watch. This image at the top of this post is from one of the shorts. I like how they focused on typography in relation to motion graphics. I think that sometimes type becomes an after thought when it could play a staring role. If you haven’t seen the video’s yet you can see them in the store section of Adobe’s website.
