The ecotrust project was done for a Design Studio 2 course. The assignment was to create a persuasive work that promoted the Forestry Stewardship Council and green forestry. I decided to create a minute long video piece that communicated the importance of green building practices to building professionals.

I took a lot of time learning as much as I could about sustainable green building and the LEED certification program. I wanted the information being communicated to be as clear as possible and to do so entailed understanding the issues surrounding sustainable building. I spent a lot of time refining the message I wanted to send.

Understanding my target audience was very important as well. I spent time talking to building and forestry professionals to better understand their needs before taking on this project. After these conversations I felt it most important to speak directly to the builder because they consume a large ammount of lumber products. Creating a change in how they work would have a large impact on the sustainable forestry community.

This is the first time I have created a project using Adobe After Effects. It was a fairly difficult process that Left me wanting to do more in the program. I set up a lengthy story board in Illustrator to have a better understanding of how the final product would look then imported the graphics and photography into After Effects. The most difficult part was editing the sound track.

After rendering the final movie I imported the video into Flash and posted it on the web. I am very pleased with the final product. I believe that it speaks to the intended audience, expresses the message clearly, and is fun to watch.

I'm glad you finally made it. I'm Elliot Olson a communication design student from Portland Oregon. I'm a senior at the Pacific Northwest College of Art and will be graduating in the winter of 2007. I bet you didn't know that... I am a creative problem solver, I am cronically ahead of schedual, I thrive under super tight deadlines, my favorite pair of shoes is a 10 year old pair Adidas shell toes, I work well as part of a team, I design because I can't help it, and I have a whole lot to offer.
