School’s Out For Summer…

Portland Design StudentSchool’s out… I can take a breather . Just for a second though, I have a lot lined up for this summer.

I was accepted for a special summer session of a class called C4D, which is short for Center for Design. C4D functions as an in house design firm at PNCA. I was one of 8 students that were hand picked to attend the special summer session. We are working with real clients doing what looks like will be some very exciting work. I have to say that this term was very difficult but I produced some of my very best work to date. I did two projects in Adobe After Effects and became addicted. If you read the last article I wrote you already know all about that. My final for my Design Studio 2 class was a 45 second animation about what I learned over the course of the last year. I am still working on getting a Quicktime video on-line so stills will have to do for now. The project was to redo any work from the term that I felt needed a little something extra for my portfolio. The past year has been kind of a blur, this summer is most likely going to be more of the same. I just hope I can go camping with the family for a while…

Persuasive Designer Project.

I was very satisfied by my work this term so I took on a new project instead. I had a lot of fun working on this project because it was wide open in terms of how I wanted it to look. I focused on the major things I felt I learned throughout the term. Some of the major things we focused on as a class were ideas of sustainability in design, using rhetoric in our design to achieve a second level of meaning, and creating persuasive messages using the language of design.

I am a designer
I just love motion graphics. Creating them involves so much more that a static design. I love having to take timing, sound, and action into account when working. It can be frustrating as well though. There are lots of little details that you need to keep in mind while you work, I just love that. I have been drawn to web design for the same reason. I think that the little things are what make the difference between a good design and a great design. I try to take that extra step that separates my work from the rest of the design students at school.

So this summer is going to really exciting, I am currently looking for a job or internship at a design firm in the Portland area. I would really like to work somewhere that I can learn a lot and grow as a designer. I have a whole lot to offer just about any firm in the area as well, I am hard working, creative, have a style that is adaptable to almost any type of project, and can make one mean pot of coffee. Keep your eyes right here, I’m gonna drop that animation project in the next few days… Till then, enjoy the sun.
